Taiko Classes

The Wadaiko Rindo taiko classes that started in 1996 (initially starting out as JAPEP taiko class), currently has 10 classes with approximately 92 students, each attending a weekly class. Regular performances are held by the students in local music festivals and events. There is an annual Taiko camp in November, and an annual concert in December that showcases the year's work.

The practice venue is a church hall near the city.

There are people of all differing backgrounds in Wadaiko Rindo classes. Greek, Chinese, Italian, Jewish Australian, Indian, Phillipino, Malaysian, Japanese, and also Aussies. Mark, a doctor in engineering, Nick the puppeteer, Melissa the fashion designer, Julie the Japanese teacher, Nadia the solicitor, David the painter... Different nationalities, skin colours, eye colours, physiques, religions - all coming together and enjoying playing Japanese taiko. It's an interchange of people from all walks of life from all around the world.
